About Us

The Plant City Chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County just finished building 2 houses and is taking applications from families to build our next home. We need land, supplies, and companies to sponsor homes or events. Volunteers on all levels including administrative, fundraisers, committee members and hammer pounders are needed and welcomed. Help make our mission to end poverty housing  a reality!

Habitat for Humanity is a non-denominational Christian ministry which is committed to assisting low-income families who qualify for partnership, and are willing to provide a down payment and sweat-equity, an interest free, quality affordable home. We do this by building homes together with families and volunteers; this is a hand up not a hand out. We welcome individuals, corporate and church groups of all denominations to join in our mission.

The Plant City Chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County is made up of volunteers that all have an interest in improving and impacting their local community in a very positive way. Said one volunteer: “At first I hesitated to join Habitat because I have always been involved in children’s charities. But it only took a few seconds to realize there could be no greater impact on a child’s life than to be involved in helping a child and their family be able to get into a decent home that they can be proud of. It not only affects their self esteem, but every other aspect of their life.”

The current Plant City Chapter was formed in 2004 and is a 501(c)(3) organization.  We have to our credit 3 completed homes in the Plant City Area for our partner families. Our goal is to build 2 plus houses per year, and we are currently welcoming applications from families who would like to partner with us. We are also searching for suitable land to build our next Habitat for Humanity Home.

HABITAT HISTORY
Habitat for Humanty International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Habitat has built more than 200,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Habitat is a worldwide, grass-roots movement. There are more than 3,000 active affiliates in over 100 countries,  including all 50 states of the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico.

OUR MISSION
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

OUR GOAL
The ultimate goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth by construction and building adequate and basic housing. Futhermore, all our words and actions are for the ultimate purpose of putting shelter on the hearts and minds of people in such a powerful way that poverty housing and homelessness become socially, politically and religiously unacceptable in our nations and world.
