Thank you Coffee 101 and the people of Plant City! With your help we raised awareness and money earmarked to help start building our next Habitat for Humanity Home! Great fun was had by all and we tasted some great coffee and delicious and decadent desserts! (Is it true that calories are canceled out when you eat them for a good cause?)

We invited the Children of Plant City to c o me to Lowe’s on Saturday, Feb. 16th at 10am.
Tables were set up with paint, markers, paint brushes, hammers, aprons, eye protection goggles, nails, screws and the little house bank kits, pre-drilled and ready to build.
The children, with the help of their parents and Habitat volunteers built and painted their little house banks. Each child and house were assigned a business from Plant City that had previously agreed to host a little bank for Habitat for Humanity of Plant City.
The children were put into three age groups. 5 – 7, 8 – 11, and 12-and up. The houses were numbered on the bottom to indicate which child and business went with each house.
After all houses were complete our judges, Marion M. Smith, President, Chamber of Commerce, Mike Sparkman, Owner Sparky’s Oil company, Director at Hillsboro Bank, and Donald Stine, Owner of Stine Construction and Director of Hillsboro Bank, judged all of the little houses and chose three, one from each age group to be the winners. Each winner will receive a 50.00 savings bond. The savings bonds were donated by Hillsboro Bank.
The winners of the creative winners are, Julianna Shores-5, Auston Cicarelli-10 and Myles Layman-15.
20 little house banks are now located in 20 businesses throughout Plant City for the next two months. The child whose little bank collects the most money will receive a 50.00 savings bond, also donated by Hillsboro Bank
.
Goodie bags were handed out to participants with coupons from Kazbor’s and Chili’s, Habitat for Humanity carpenters pencils, piggy banks supplied by Hillsboro bank, a patch from Lowe’s and candy.
A special thanks to Lowe’s and Sales Manager, Kelley Norris for sponsoring this event and providing us with the paint, hammers, aprons and goggles and the place to hold the event.
And special thank you to Hillsboro Bank for donating the savings bonds
Thank you to Kazbor’s and Chili’s…..Kazbor’s gave each child a free ice cream Sunday for participating and Chili’s gave each child a free kid’s meal for doing the same.
