The Plant City Chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County's mission is to provide decent, affordable housing for people in need.
These homes are provided at NO PROFIT, with ZERO INTEREST to those families who could not otherwise afford to purchase their own home and who meet The Plant City Chapter of Habitat for Humanity's requirements.
ALL applicants will be considered. The Plant City Chapter of Habitat for Humanity does not discriminate based upon race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

Qualifying for A Habitat Home
To be considered for a Habitat Home, the following must apply to the applicant:
Must demonstrate a need for adequate shelter and must be currently living in substandard housing. Must show an ability to pay a 20-Year Interest Free Mortgage. Monthly mortgage payments amount to roughly $300.00 to $350.00 and down payment of $1,500. Must display a willingness to partner with The Plant City Chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County. Must fall in the minimum and maximum income guidelines in order to qualify for a home.

The Application Process
The following information will be required as part of the application process:
Past month's pay stubs for all wage earners in the household.
Proof of unearned income (i.e. SSI, SSA, AFDC, VA benefits, etc.).
Proof of court ordered income (i.e. Child Support, Alimony, etc.).
If you are married, you must apply with your spouse. If divorced, a copy of the legal documentation is required.
Residency in Hillsborough County, Florida for at least 12 months must be verified for consideration.
All applicants must be United States citizens or have a Permanent Resident Alien Card.
A listing of your current debts and obligations. This includes car payments, credit cards, cellular phones, furniture accounts, and other monthly bills.
YOU MUST WAIT A MINIMUM OF 24 MONTHS TO APPLY IF YOU HAVE HAD A BANKRUPTCY OR A FORECLOSURE.
All liens and judgements must be taken care of prior to applying for the program.
( The debt-to-income ratio must be less than 45 % of your monthly income.)
Families with numerous collection accounts will be referred to non-profit debt consolidation program.
You MUST wait a minimum of 24 months to apply if you have had a bankruptcy or a foreclosure.

PRE-APPLICATION INVITATION
The Plant City Chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County is sponsoring a PRE-APPLICATION MEETING at The Martin Luther King Recreation Center, which is located at 1601 E Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Plant City, on Thursday, April 3rd, 2008 from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm..
All adult applicants in the household must attend this meeting. All sources of income must be verified at the pre-application meeting. If you are paid on a weekly payroll schedule, please submit copies of the four most recent pay stubs; if paid on a bi-weekly or twice monthly payroll schedule, please submit copies of the two most recent pay stubs. If you are Self-Employed, you must submit a current year-to-date financial statement along with your 2004 and 2005 Income Tax Return. Bring benefit letters from all other sources of income (SSA, SSI, AFDC/TANF, pensions/retirement funds, VA benefits, Worker’s Comp, Unemployment, etc.). Child Support and alimony payments must be verified with a court order or other legal documentation, showing the most recent monthly payment amounts. Please bring photocopies of the ABOVE information.
In addition to the income verification documents you must also bring a non-refundable $25 application fee, in the form of a MONEY ORDER. This covers our cost of pulling a credit report. We will not accept cash or personal check. IF YOU DO NOT BRING ALL OF THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION TO THE MEETING, ALONG WITH THE MONEY ORDER, YOUR PRE-APPLICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.
We will not be able to accommodate your children because of the number of people we expect to attend this meeting. Therefore, please make arrangements for childcare prior to attending. If you are providing your own translator, that person must be over the age of 18 years.

Procedure Summary
Attend Pre-Screening Application Meeting.
Verification of Income and Credit.
Home interview by a Habitat Family Selection Committee member.
Volunteer at the Habitat work site for the “Good Faith Hours”.
Complete Application and other documentation needed to complete file.
Approval by the Family Selection Committee and the Habitat Board of Directors.
Placed on the waiting list.
Select site and house plans.
Have the Wall Raising and start building your Habitat home.
Complete the 500 “Sweat Equity” hours and pay $1,500 down-payment.
Dedicating, closing, and moving into your home.
Make timely, monthly mortgage payments over a period of 20 years.
From start to finish, the selection/home ownership process takes approximately two (2) years to be completed.
